I discovered Alice Jemima at the BBC Introducing stage at Wychwood festival in 2011 whilst working the festival and helping bands load in. It's hard to believe she's only 17, like right now! I remember when I was 17 (feels like a lifetime ago) I was cruising around in a stolen BMW, blasting out Dr Dre and being a right little terror, but Alice is on the right track. I'd love to have her come and play in Worcester but she lives in Devon so the train fair alone makes that one a very hard/expensive proposition. So, to get us all through, here is her take on a The Bird and The Bee song called 'Heard It on the Radio'. Claire Boswell is back after a little 'break' and playing with Jez King, click here for a lovely little video by Jim. They played at John Taylor's Lazy Sunday at Cafe Bliss at the Worcester Arts Workshop, which is where I took this picture. Talking of which, after filming her set, I went inside to get a hot chocolate with whipped cream and marshmallows (you know how I roll, playa) - £2:90 though?! What's that all about, it was £1.75. Anyways, I was taken to one side and told that the Worcester Arts Workshop is facing possible legal action over their outside performances! They've tried saying that it's only 4 hours of acoustic music once a month but that's not good enough for some nearby residents who want it all shut down! So I've been asked to hurry up uploading my videos from this event to my YouTube Channel so they can be used as evidence in court. eek! _Small Engine Repair is the alternative, americana, lofi, folk collective brain-child of Phil Twigg (Guitar, keys, Vocals), Tom Harrington (Bass, Vocals) Pedro Kirk (Guitar, Clarinet, Lapsteel, Vocals) and Dan Lewis (Drums, Vocals) In early 2009 ten tracks were recorded straight to tape in a garden shed/studio on the outskirts of Leominster in just a single day and the band then tentatively began playing live and circulating choice cuts from this session.During these first shows Small Engine Repair came to the attention of Hilldrop Records, who cherry-picked the song ‘Serve Yourself’ for inclusion on their compilation album - We Can Be Friends’ Shortly afterwards another track from these first sessions ‘Have You Seen What I’ve Become?’ sound-tracked a short-film made by the charity, UK Youth. This led to three very confused and underdressed Hereford musicians playing a star-studded charity event at St James’s Palace in early 2010 in front of the likes of Princess Anne and Pixie Lott. _ Saying Ellie Goulding's album 'Lights' provided the soundtrack to my summer in 2010 might sound as naff as saying 'naff but it's true. There was something about it that had that instant replayability factor, whether that lay in the songwriting or production or both was hard to say. What I can say with all certainty though is that this is a beautiful little gem of a rare song that I bet you haven't heard before. So download it straight away and make up for lost time. I first saw Kate McGill playing in the Caffe Nero tent at the Cornbury festival in Oxford last year. She made a YouTube channel where she uploaded videos of herself covering popular songs on her acoustic guitar, by artists such as Adele, The Killers, Mumford and Sons, Paramore, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Rihanna and many many more. I'm not copying and pasting this from wikipedia, I've seen all these videos at the time. Her YouTube channel has had 29 million views, that's just crazy. Below is just a clip, limited to 100 downloads. They usually get snapped up pretty quickly by her army of fans so get in there on the quick while the going is good. Ah, just when you thought it couldn't get any better, Richard Clarke's only gone and got himself a band! But don't worry, they compliment his wonderful song-smithery perfectly and I couldn't picture any other arrangement of musicians working so well. They've got a new album out which consists of reworked classics and new gems just waiting to be discovered. Their new album can be brought or even just streamed from their BandCamp page. Marina, Marina, Marina, can she do no wrong? To get your grubby mits on an acoustic version of Radioactive, all you have to do is go to her official website and it'll be right there on the splash screen. Either that or just pop your email in the box below and click 'Submit' and if you get signed up to a mailing list, you can always just unsubscribe when the first email comes through. It's not that difficult, it really isn't, so stop um'ing and er'ing and biting your lip and just get on with it. Rome wasn't built in a day and you're not building a city, you're not even playing the mighty Age of Empires II, you're just sat there looking for free music and now you've found it. Do believe the hype. Lana (or Elizabeth Grant) is a singer/songwriter from Lake Placid, New York, United States. She is known for embellishing her songs and music videos with an eerily nostalgic vibe heavy on Americana themes, including images of surfing, Coney Island, Frank Sinatra, and Marilyn Monroe. Here's a track that she did for a session with 6Music recently. Ruby Rae started as the side project of NYC based pop-punk band The Ex-Debutantes in 2010. Her debut release title "Double Feature" could easily be mistaken for a night at the local drive-in when rock'n'roll still flirted with its honky-tonk roots. The songs 'It Came from the Swamp' and 'Invisible Man' showcase rockabilly inflected instrumentation paired with sinister stories of monsters, love, and guns. This is a demo track from what will hopefully be the first album, there's a Pledge page here, why not have a gander. Another Worcester based singer/songwriter who came up to do a session at Choice Radio. He's got a little 3 track EP that he put up on Last.fm for free download. Click this link to go there and saffle up those directly from there.

Making your music folder better, one song at a time.
_Pretty much everyday I seem to find some amazing exclusive tracks that
some awesome artists are giving away for free as a special one off
promotion. Today, it occured to me that instead of just downloading
them, maybe reposting them on facebook if they're special enough/someone I know and
then moving on, I should start a little music blog on here. Even if it
doesn't last forever, it's still a free song for you each day that it
does! I'd say the character of this blog is mostly electropop and singer/songwriter but I've got plans for mathcore, post-rock and glitch-hop. A lot of these tracks have a download limit of 100 so get in there on the quick. I'd also point out that a lot of the songs will need renaming once you've downloaded them so I'd do them one at a time. Archives
