Ruby Rae started as the side project of NYC based pop-punk band The Ex-Debutantes in 2010. Her debut release title 'Double Feature' could easily be mistaken for a night at the local drive-in when rock'n'roll still flirted with its honky-tonk roots. The songs 'It Came from the Swamp' and 'Invisible Man' showcase rockabilly inflected instrumentation paired with sinister stories of monsters, love, and guns. This is a demo track from what will hopefully be the first album, there's a Pledge page here, why not have a gander.

Signals. are a band from Southampton/Isle of Wight. In their words: 'We are Signals, a female fronted indie / post math rock four-piece from the South of England. We take collective inspiration from artists such as Bon Iver, Thrice, Local Natives, Manchester Orchestra, As Tall As Lions, and Tubelord, amongst others. From this, we have created an eclectic mix of intricate melodies and ambient guitarscapes, held together with energetic rhythm sections - all entwined with subtle and soaring three-part harmony.' Why not have a little listen and see what you make of it. They have a 5 track EP called 'Square Wheels' for sale for £4 on their BandCamp page. NOTE: The download is an .aif file which you're not going to have much luck playing. Don't despair though, just run it through an mp3 converter and you'll have a nice 1 minute mp3, for a few clicks. The brilliantly named 'Joanna Gruesome' are a Cardiff-based, male/female vocal-led five-piece indie rock group who say they sound like all of your favourite 80s and 90s indie bands rolled into one. Dinosaur Jr, Lush, The Pastels, My Bloody Valentine, Superchunk, Mega City 4...have a listen and see what you think. They've put an EP online for free download (or pay what you like) Signed to Radio One endorsed Art Is Hard label and having played Indietracks, theirs is a name you can expect to hear popping up online and in conversation. For a better idea of what you can expect from them live, you can check out their video for 'Madison' by clicking here and if you're hungry for more, then click here. ...and Upstairs, Nurses are a math-rock band from Birmingham. Photo by Albert Testani. More to follow after the gig tonight. An exciting gypsy jazz manouche trio featuring the Virtuosic Guitar of Madi Stimpson accompanied by the Melodic and Bouncy Guitar of Stuart Neal and the Double Bass of Michaël Lacoult in a true ‘Hot Club de Paris’ style. The palette of the Trio also expands their Manouche repertoire with an eclectic mix of acoustic tracks and some famous songs. An exciting swinging Trio! Madi Stimpson has been a popular performer on the UK Folk & Jazz scene and for most of the 90s travelled around Europe with his guitar particularly spending time in Belgium, Holland and Ireland. His guitar playing draws from traditional jazz manouche, bluegrass and Irish folk. Stuart Neal started playing pedal steel guitar and five-string banjo with the Harpers Ferry (country rock) before becoming a freelance musician. In 2001, Stuart discovered a passion for gypsy jazz music whilst attending a Django Reinhardt workshop. Just a reminder, they're playing at The Great Malvern Hotel on Saturday 1st September. It's a free gig too, so if you're in the area then no there's no excuses that I'd accept for you not being there. J A W S are an indie rock band from Birmingham who've been making waves recently (see what I did there? Boxxy would have) who took their name not from the legendary Jaws film but from the equally legendary Bond villian. They play around the West Midlands so if you like what you hear below then remember their name, you never know when you might see it on a gig listing. Their new single 'Toucan Surf' is out now. Sky Ferreira is an ElectroPop singer, model and actress from Los Angeles, California. She stared out on MySpace which is how she built her buzz and shortly before her 15th birthday, she caught the attention of Swedish producers Bloodshy & Avant by sending them a message through the social networking site. The producers were impressed and subsequently decided to work with her. She signed to Parlophone in July 2009 and subsequently appeared in the video for 'Pop the Glock' by Uffie and it's been non-stop for her since then. Her song 'Obessions' is featured on the Vampire Diaries soundtrack. Here's her take on Lana Del Rey's 'Blue Jeans'. Birmingham based (although we all know that they're from Worcester) 'dark and tropically fused indie' four piece Peace have recently released their new single 'California Daze' hot on the heels of 'Follow Baby' which you can download for free by popping your email adress in the box which (as is standard now) signs you up to their mailing list. The photo above was taken by a happy snapper for the NME, I figured they've featured enough of my videos on their site, they shouldn't be too fused about me using this picture. Also, it's worth mentioning that after I signed up, it took a while for it to show up in my email and when it did, I found it in my Junk folder, but I fished it out of there and it was all good. Rachael Yamagata is a singer/songwriter from Arlington, Virgina. 'I'll Find A Way' is the fifth track on her 2004 debut album 'Happenstance' and is much more of a ballad than 'Starlight' which I've previously blogged about. She's worked with Jason Mraz, Toots & The Maytals, Ryan Adam & The Cardinals, Rhett Miller and Mandy Moore (each song I've conveniently linked in there) and her songs have featured on several TV shows including How I Met Your Mother, ER, Nip/Tuck, Men in Trees, Alias, One Tree Hill, Brothers & Sisters and The O.C. Anyways, that's way more than enough links, the song is below. Enjoy. Making your music folder better, one song at a time.
_Pretty much everyday I seem to find some amazing exclusive tracks that
some awesome artists are giving away for free as a special one off
promotion. Today, it occured to me that instead of just downloading
them, maybe reposting them on facebook if they're special enough/someone I know and
then moving on, I should start a little music blog on here. Even if it
doesn't last forever, it's still a free song for you each day that it
does! I'd say the character of this blog is mostly electropop and singer/songwriter but I've got plans for mathcore, post-rock and glitch-hop. A lot of these tracks have a download limit of 100 so get in there on the quick. I'd also point out that a lot of the songs will need renaming once you've downloaded them so I'd do them one at a time. Archives
