Tiny Dragons are a three piece from Brighton. A bit indie rock, a bit disco pop. Have a listen, give it a download, throw a party, get horribly drunk, put it on and pretend you're in an episode of Skins; somewhere in the second season.

I've been getting 'progressively' (see what I did there) more into shoegaze this year, as this music blog will no doubt begin to reflect over time. Here's a little bit of their bio lifyed straight from their Last.fm page. The Brian Jonestown Massacre was formed in San Francisco in 1990. The band has had over 40 members since then, but its driving force and main songwriter is Anton Newcombe. Other prominent members have included Matt Hollywood, Dean Taylor, Jeff Davies, Brian Glaze, and Joel Gion. Their sound is heavily influenced by the psychedelic sounds of the 1960s, but also carries influences from shoegaze, jangle pop, garage rock, and lo-fi sonorities. Sorry I haven't got time to do a proper write up on Foxes, I'm working the Now We Are festival so am really tied up with that until Sunday night/Monday morning. I will update this when I get back, no matter how tired I am, and if you thought that this was just going to be relentlessly cute indie rock chicks and singer/songwriters...there's a whole bunch of post-rock weirdy-beardy blokes on the way. _Singaporean Sharliza Jelita bursts like brightly coloured confetti onto the music scene with her energetic live performances and eclectic music. Combining Hot Chip, Janelle Monae, Stereolab and Sesame Street, the result is her self-funded alt-pop debut album ‘Strange Things’, which was released in February 2012. Her first single, No Go Pogo, was released on July 25 and has since gained over 10,000 plays on Youtube. To promote the single, she went round central London and got random people to jump on pogo sticks. _Small Engine Repair is the alternative, americana, lofi, folk collective brain-child of Phil Twigg (Guitar, keys, Vocals), Tom Harrington (Bass, Vocals) Pedro Kirk (Guitar, Clarinet, Lapsteel, Vocals) and Dan Lewis (Drums, Vocals) In early 2009 ten tracks were recorded straight to tape in a garden shed/studio on the outskirts of Leominster in just a single day and the band then tentatively began playing live and circulating choice cuts from this session.During these first shows Small Engine Repair came to the attention of Hilldrop Records, who cherry-picked the song ‘Serve Yourself’ for inclusion on their compilation album - We Can Be Friends’ Shortly afterwards another track from these first sessions ‘Have You Seen What I’ve Become?’ sound-tracked a short-film made by the charity, UK Youth. This led to three very confused and underdressed Hereford musicians playing a star-studded charity event at St James’s Palace in early 2010 in front of the likes of Princess Anne and Pixie Lott. _ A bonus one on the quick as this has just popped up and won't last long so get clicking where it says 'SoundCloud in grey to download this great track. It's produced completely by Danz and mixed by Mark Ephraim and Danz. I've been a fan of Sophie's since she was in theaudience and followed her throughout her solo career. Not literally mind you, that would have cost a fortune with the amount of world tours she's done; and it's alright for her, she can recoup from the ticket sales and merch. Aaaanyways, this is the only song that she's got on her SoundCloud but it's a single so you're doing well to get it for free. You'll have to rename it and change the id-3 tags in WinAmp once you've got it or not be as OCD as me and leave it be, though it is called Get Over You. Sophie's a lovely lady, I've met her at Cornbury festival which is where I took the picture you _Recognize the bracelet? Maya has locked horns with some of the biggest, most-forward thinking producers in the business – including Flood (Depeche Mode, The Killers, PJ Harvey), Dave McCracken (Roc Nation, Beyonce, Oh Land) and Dimitri Tikovoi (Placebo, The Horrors, Nicola Roberts) – to help produce her debut solo album. She also brought her new found love for club-land beats to the writing sessions for Nicola Roberts - Maya penned the Girls Alouder’s first hit ‘Beat of My Drum’ that was produced by Dimitri Tikovoi and Diplo. ‘’For Nicola I’d imagined a ‘Pon de Floor’ style song that was overlaid with Uffie-like vocals and cheerleader chants… and everyone loved it. I was happy to bring a slice of the underground to the forefront of UK pop!’‘ _Crystal Castles are an experimental electronic band which formed in 2003 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and consists of producer Ethan Kath and vocalist Alice Glass. They are named after the lyrics “The fate of the world is safe in Crystal Castles” and “Crystal Castles, the source of all power” both from the theme song for She-Ra’s fortress. They are known for their melancholic lo-fi sound and their explosive live shows. Their debut album was included in NME’s 'Top 50 Albums of the Decade'. And if all that isn't enough to sell them to you, then watch this with the volume right up. Not really for people with weak hearts or epilepsy either. This song, Celestica is their big anthem, even if all this experiemental glitch-hop electro nonsense isn't your cup of tea, click the word Celestica above, watch that on full screen and you will want a copy of that track, and here it is, right on queue, just like that. |
Making your music folder better, one song at a time.
_Pretty much everyday I seem to find some amazing exclusive tracks that
some awesome artists are giving away for free as a special one off
promotion. Today, it occured to me that instead of just downloading
them, maybe reposting them on facebook if they're special enough/someone I know and
then moving on, I should start a little music blog on here. Even if it
doesn't last forever, it's still a free song for you each day that it
does! I'd say the character of this blog is mostly electropop and singer/songwriter but I've got plans for mathcore, post-rock and glitch-hop. A lot of these tracks have a download limit of 100 so get in there on the quick. I'd also point out that a lot of the songs will need renaming once you've downloaded them so I'd do them one at a time. Archives
