Bleech are a three piece grunge band from London, comprising of sisters Jen O’Neill (vocals/guitar/piano) and Katherine O'Neill and Matt Bick (drums). I've blogged about them before so rather than repeat myself, I'll just let you know that hot of the heels of their first album 'Nude', the band are working on their second album 'Humble Sky'. What we have right here is the first single 'Not Like You' which they have put up as a free download. Get your copy below, it's only one click away.

Benji Tranter is a singer/songwriter from Hereford who lives in London. Here we have his lovely take on the Mystery Jets song 'Hand Me Down', you can hear the original by clicking here. NOTE: This download is a .wav file which is 32MB so you'll want to run it through an mp3 converter if you want to keep it. I wish musicans on SoundCloud would realise that people don't want wavs. Benji Tranter is a singer/songwriter from Hereford who lives in London and who akes some lovely music. He's recently played a bunch of festivals, started recording his first album and has released his first music video 'Wolf-Cub' which you can see by clicking here. Up for grabs today is the 'Crayons E.P.' from 2009 I love Little Boots and so should you. As much as I want a new album to follow on from the brilliant 'Hands' which had such great ElectroPop singles such as 'New in Town', 'Remedy' and 'Earthquake', Little Boots has been keeping herself busy with DJ sets and remixing tracks. Here's a mix she put together for a recent DJ set at the closing party at Space in Ibiza. It's a 52 minute slab of disco which might be a bit too much if you're indoors on your own but if you're having a bit of a gathering or a party, it's about the same length as an album so if you can't afford to get Little Boots to turn up and DJ in your living room, here's the next best thing. Pop this on your playlist and pretend she's the sound selector in the corner bopping about. Benji Tranter is a folk singer/songwriter from Hereford who lives in London. Today what's on offer is a track that he describes as a christmas songs and 80's pop pastiche. It definetely makes me think of 80's christmas jumpers and Wham! Download it and when Christmas comes around this year, you can add it to your own original x-mas playlist and advoid all the overplaying cheesy christmas singles. There'll be no cars big as bars or pistols carved out of wood, just some decent singer/songwriters, that's how it's going to be going down in my house anyway. Daughter is the musical work of Elena Tonra. Have a listen to her music, would you call her a singer/songwriter or indie folk? It's a tough call but I'm sure we can both agree that's bloody good. Growing up in a qiuet part of London in the 90's she spent her days listening to her parent’s vinyl collections and older brother’s rock CDs. She later discovered the beauty of acoustic and folk inspired music and started to create stories and poems which formed the skeletons of her songs. Wearing clothes that old people may well have died in, and a bowl-cut the Beatles would be proud of, Daughter tells tales of ghosts, drowning lovers and setting fire to her insides for fun. Daughter’s haunting voice and delicate guitar playing make her live performances spell-binding and often difficult to breathe. She talks about unrequited love, lost hope and death… in the prettiest way imaginable. This is a track from Kate Nash that was written and recorded in less than 24 hours. She's put it up as a free download whilst she's on tour. The video can be seen here. It's resulted in a polarized opinion from her fanbase, the official video on YouTube has 1,422 likes and 1,381 dislikes. Many liken it to the music to Riot Grrrl groups such as Bikini Kill and Le Tigre with a big lump of Hole thrown in. Have a listen and see what you make of it all. On her tumblr My Ignorant Youth, Kate has said that she'll leave this up as a free download whilst she's away on her current tour, so if you do like what you hear, get to it. Helen Arney is another discovery that I made at this year's Wychwood festival. She was part of the Robin Ince Science show and performed songs on her ukulele. Based in London, Helen is a comedian, geek songstress, one third of science comedy phenomenon Festival of the Spoken Nerd, and half of the greatest comedy girlband you’ve never heard of, The Balconettes. Have a listen to the song below and I just know that you'll want it in your collection. Ah go on, click 'download'. I spent 6 days in a field in the pouring rain to bring you these tips! I've already featured Bleech on here, with the previous single 'Mondays', so I don't want to repeat myself too much but they are a great little band and definitely worth checking out. They're currently on tour in support of their new album 'Nude' which is released today! They played at the Sunflower Lounge in Birmingham a few nights ago so there's a local(ish) angle for you there, if you need one. The track up for grabs today is their take on David Bowie's 'Boy's Keep Swinging' from 1979. Out of all the tracks they could have picked, I think it's a pretty cool choice and that they've done it justice. What do you think? Bleech are an exciting three piece from London consisting of sisters Jen and Katherine, as well as drummer Matt. They started out in 2008 (that's when they created their facebook page) and I've got a couple of their singles that they put out in 2009 on Juno records, namely 'Is It True That Boys Don't Cry' and 'The Worthing Song'. Since then, they've put out an ep (Deadhead), been endorsed by Kangol and a full length LP called 'Nude' in 2011. So far this year they've continued to play all over the place, including the mighty Now We Are festival where I was working and managed to film them (only the one song though) and they were a lovely bunch. They're having an album launch at The Sunflower Lounge in Birmingham on Saturday 2nd July and releasing their new single 'Adrenalin Junkie' was released (into the wild) yesterday (Monday 28th May) and their album is coming out on Monday 4th June, perfectly in time for the Royal Jubilee celebrations. Make sure you get their previous single for free by clicking below. Note: This is a wav file so you'll want to convert it to an mp3 once you've got it. |
Making your music folder better, one song at a time.
_Pretty much everyday I seem to find some amazing exclusive tracks that
some awesome artists are giving away for free as a special one off
promotion. Today, it occured to me that instead of just downloading
them, maybe reposting them on facebook if they're special enough/someone I know and
then moving on, I should start a little music blog on here. Even if it
doesn't last forever, it's still a free song for you each day that it
does! I'd say the character of this blog is mostly electropop and singer/songwriter but I've got plans for mathcore, post-rock and glitch-hop. A lot of these tracks have a download limit of 100 so get in there on the quick. I'd also point out that a lot of the songs will need renaming once you've downloaded them so I'd do them one at a time. Archives
