An exciting gypsy jazz manouche trio featuring the Virtuosic Guitar of Madi Stimpson accompanied by the Melodic and Bouncy Guitar of Stuart Neal and the Double Bass of Michaël Lacoult in a true ‘Hot Club de Paris’ style. The palette of the Trio also expands their Manouche repertoire with an eclectic mix of acoustic tracks and some famous songs. An exciting swinging Trio! Madi Stimpson has been a popular performer on the UK Folk & Jazz scene and for most of the 90s travelled around Europe with his guitar particularly spending time in Belgium, Holland and Ireland. His guitar playing draws from traditional jazz manouche, bluegrass and Irish folk. Stuart Neal started playing pedal steel guitar and five-string banjo with the Harpers Ferry (country rock) before becoming a freelance musician. In 2001, Stuart discovered a passion for gypsy jazz music whilst attending a Django Reinhardt workshop. Just a reminder, they're playing at The Great Malvern Hotel on Saturday 1st September. It's a free gig too, so if you're in the area then no there's no excuses that I'd accept for you not being there. J A W S are an indie rock band from Birmingham who've been making waves recently (see what I did there? Boxxy would have) who took their name not from the legendary Jaws film but from the equally legendary Bond villian. They play around the West Midlands so if you like what you hear below then remember their name, you never know when you might see it on a gig listing. Their new single 'Toucan Surf' is out now. Birmingham based (although we all know that they're from Worcester) 'dark and tropically fused indie' four piece Peace have recently released their new single 'California Daze' hot on the heels of 'Follow Baby' which you can download for free by popping your email adress in the box which (as is standard now) signs you up to their mailing list. The photo above was taken by a happy snapper for the NME, I figured they've featured enough of my videos on their site, they shouldn't be too fused about me using this picture. Also, it's worth mentioning that after I signed up, it took a while for it to show up in my email and when it did, I found it in my Junk folder, but I fished it out of there and it was all good. It's based on a party we threw in Oyster Bay at the ATP 10th Birthday party. Shit got out of hand, The radiators got removed, someone pissed in the fridge, someone shit on the table & someone uprooted a palm tree and left it in the bedroom. It was one of the most awesome parties ever. Basically, Awesome x disgusting² = superperfection Pain isn't a bad thing. Enjoy. PEACE." Arbor Lights are an instrumental four-piece from Birmingham. After meeting up in a bar Alex Clarke (guitar), Greg Aston (bass), James Clarke (drums) and Matt Elton (guitar) decided to put a band together in July of 2010. Since then they have gigged around their home town (and occasionally further afield) with the likes of The Cape of Good Hope, killer yogi and God Damn, released a single called ‘On A Sea’ in May 2011 and recorded their self titled EP with Michael Clarke at Hockley Street Studios which was released March 2012. Today I discovered a great 5 track EP from a band that's been doing the rounds for a little while now. Arbor Lights are an instrumental four-piece from Birmingham. Since then they have gigged around our home town (and occasionally further afield) with the likes of The Cape Of Good Hope, Killer Yogi and God Damn, released a single called ‘On A Sea’ in May 2011, recorded our self titled EP with Michael Clarke at Hockley Street Studios and picked up the following nice words along the way: “Beautiful. Love it. Absolutely love it.” - Paul Connop, The Jaccals “Arbor Lights bring out my favourite drumbeat. They combine warm, chin-stroke-worthy riffs with ear-offending feedback. I like.” http://twitter.com/#!/whoopscareless “Slow-burning melodies that evolve into an intense, heady climax are what this band seems to do best, have a listen, it’s great.” - Scene Not Herd Suzie is a Birmingham based singer/songwriter who I found out about from my boss at Choice Radio who went to one of Emily Ewing's Speed Networking nights for Musicians at The Jam House in Birmingham. Give it a listen, if you like it then it's the same deal as before, click on 'SoundCloud' to go to this song's page to download it for free, and if you feel inclined, you can go to her page where she's put all of her songs up for free download. I just put this one as after listening to them all I felt this was the best representation of her work. You'll need to rename the mp3 files after downloading them so I'd recommend getting them one at a time if I were you. I'm not you though, obviously, but be glad you're not me or you'd be sat here typing this out at 5.48am. |
Making your music folder better, one song at a time.
_Pretty much everyday I seem to find some amazing exclusive tracks that
some awesome artists are giving away for free as a special one off
promotion. Today, it occured to me that instead of just downloading
them, maybe reposting them on facebook if they're special enough/someone I know and
then moving on, I should start a little music blog on here. Even if it
doesn't last forever, it's still a free song for you each day that it
does! I'd say the character of this blog is mostly electropop and singer/songwriter but I've got plans for mathcore, post-rock and glitch-hop. A lot of these tracks have a download limit of 100 so get in there on the quick. I'd also point out that a lot of the songs will need renaming once you've downloaded them so I'd do them one at a time. Archives
