School of Seven Bells are a dream pop/shoegaze band from Brooklyn, New York. They formed in 2007 and I remember seeing a flyer for one of their shows when I was out in NYC in 2008 but I didn't know who they were, I just remember thinking it was a cool name. Up until October 2010, the group consisted of identical twin sisters Alejandra and Claudia Deheza and Benjamin Curtis on guitar and electronics. That's them in the picture above, in that order. 'Windstorm' is a great example of their sound and was released as a single in 2010 to promote the 'Disconnect from Desire' album.

Vivian Girls are a popular noise pop/indie rock band from Brooklyn, New York. I think there's a good chance you'll recognise the track once you hear it so give a try. I'll confess that I don't know a huge amount about the band other than a familiarity with their music, but I do know that they have supported Sonic Youth and I'd read that their second drummer, Ali Koehler, left to join Best Coast as a tour drummer. Anyways, enjoy the track. Another fantastic song from Brooklyn based singer/songwriter Ivana XL. Oh see my broken legs? Casts on both of them It's just a token of his love, it's just a token of his love Lord Jesus hear my prayer so that I may some day walk again Have mercy on me, a miserable sinner Have mercy on me. A bonus one on the quick as this has just popped up and won't last long so get clicking where it says 'SoundCloud in grey to download this great track. It's produced completely by Danz and mixed by Mark Ephraim and Danz. I'll update this section a little later. Have a nice cup of hot chocolate while you're waiting. Go on, treat yourself. A fantastic electro-beat/synth pop/new wave band that I discovered through Crack magazine. A brooklyn based 3 piece bringing back something as old as new wave. Analog synthesizers, chorus driven guitars, it's all here. Add it to your music library. Note: Since posting, this song has reached it's download limit but you can still listen to it below. It's cool, do it now. She Keeps Bees are a fantastic alt. rock from Brooklyn, New York. I've only been to one of their gigs but it was fantastic. I hung out with Andy and Jess and they were lovely people. they even gave me a copy of their album 'Nests'. When I came back from New York, that and Ellis Ashbrook was all I listened to for ages. This is a picture I took of Jess at The Glasslands Gallery in Brooklyn, New York back in 2008. Look at it man. Mental. Here's a mixtape they put together, I have no idea on the tracklisting but it's a feel good mix, nice to put on while you're having a chill in the back garden. |
Making your music folder better, one song at a time.
_Pretty much everyday I seem to find some amazing exclusive tracks that
some awesome artists are giving away for free as a special one off
promotion. Today, it occured to me that instead of just downloading
them, maybe reposting them on facebook if they're special enough/someone I know and
then moving on, I should start a little music blog on here. Even if it
doesn't last forever, it's still a free song for you each day that it
does! I'd say the character of this blog is mostly electropop and singer/songwriter but I've got plans for mathcore, post-rock and glitch-hop. A lot of these tracks have a download limit of 100 so get in there on the quick. I'd also point out that a lot of the songs will need renaming once you've downloaded them so I'd do them one at a time. Archives
