Benji Tranter is a folk singer/songwriter from Hereford who currently lives in London. What we've got there is a two track single called 'Lucky and the Spur of the Moment' from 2010. If you like what you hear here then he has several festival dates coming up so keep an eye open for him, I know for a fact that he'll be playing at Nozstock festival so maybe if you're local, you'll see him there. He's also working on recording his first album so 2012 looks set to be an interesting year for this young Hereford musician.

I first discovered Catatonia by chance back in 1996 I believe it was when I set my VCR to record Later with...Jools Holland as Metallica were on but it wasn't showing until some silly time in the morning and ggg He's an upcoming guest at Choice Radio. He's what he has to say about himself on his MySpage page, in the the third-person of course. Singer/ Songwriter born in Wolverhampton. Raised on LPs, Cassettes, Cds and those little curses we call MP3s. Having fronted Bridge 55 for 6 years, Joe Karchud decided to swing solo to pursue his career working with all types of Musicians to gain a style of his own. Playing instruments such as Guitar (6 string & Bass), Drums, and vocals to express his own lyrics written about the adventures of life and so on I first heard about Christina's music when 'Jar of Hearts' was featured in an episode of 'So You Think You Can Dance' and then was everywhere. The story goes that Perri’s friend Keltie Colleen passed the song to show choreographer Stacey Tookey, and later Perri and Colleen watched the performance in the audience. Following its exposure on the show, “Jar of Hearts” sold 48,000 digital copies, which within a month grew to more than 100,000 copies. This is 'Penguin' from her 2011 album 'lovestrong'. It was uploaded by someone else (hence the random girl in the picture) but just have a listen. Such a great vocal dilivery and such great songwriting. Download while you still can. Suzie is a Birmingham based singer/songwriter who I found out about from my boss at Choice Radio who went to one of Emily Ewing's Speed Networking nights for Musicians at The Jam House in Birmingham. Give it a listen, if you like it then it's the same deal as before, click on 'SoundCloud' to go to this song's page to download it for free, and if you feel inclined, you can go to her page where she's put all of her songs up for free download. I just put this one as after listening to them all I felt this was the best representation of her work. You'll need to rename the mp3 files after downloading them so I'd recommend getting them one at a time if I were you. I'm not you though, obviously, but be glad you're not me or you'd be sat here typing this out at 5.48am. A lovely little demo track from back in 2008, of course the album version's out now but it's nice to see how it all started. Hey everybody look at me, I'm the best thing since TV Just please don't take your eyes off me, I'm a rare beauty. It's all about the spotlight, all about the camera lights flashing in the night, blinding your eyes, with big screens, limousines, magazines, celebrities. It's not what this means to you, no it's not what this means because it's not about Me, me, me, no it's not about more, more, more that's all I'm asking for. You can download this for free, you just have to click where it says 'soundcloud' at the bottom to go to the page and nab it. _Alessi's Ark is a wonderful folky singer/songwriter. I had (and still have I suspose) a ticket to see her playing a gig with George Pringle in Manchester in early 2009 around the time Notes from the Treehouse came out. Dream line-up! Sadly I couldn't go due to a load of sudden unforseen drama but if I'd gone it probably would have been the best gig (for me) of that whole year!
If you 'like' her facebook page via this link you can download her lovely cover of 'Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want' by The Smiths. You won't be disappointed. Not just one free track, but thirteen!! A full free album from this outstanding Worcester singer/songwriter. This is a brilliant and sadly over-looked album that's been expertly crafted from the subtle open that builds to the nice full chorus of 'Harder Roads to Come' to the simple arrangement of 'Almighty Conscience', this album is flawless. I insist that you add it to your library right now. I'm a big Emmy the Great fan so it's a pleasure to be able to share some of her music with people who may not already be familiar her. Emmy's known for her witty and really well written lyrics. That being said, this blatantly isn't the best example, (you'd be better off clicking here) but it is free after all. Ah Jenny, where to start? If you don't know already, she's kind of a big deal. It's her album launch/birthday party double whammy celebration next weekend. Here's a brief bit of the write up I gave her for the next issue of SLAP Magazine. 'Rather than filling your living room with balloons and having some friends round on your birthday, Jenny Hallam is releasing her first album, putting on a gig, organising coach trips to London and back for a mega-party – and you’re invited! At just 19 (at the time of print) Jenny has already played the likes of Westfest, Mappfest, the Pyramid Party and most recently The Colwall Family festival. She moved to London to attend university and wasted no time in making music connections down there and becoming a regular at several open mic nights before being noticed and offered gigs around the area. She’s even supported Placebo’s drummer’s band Planes but she still found the time in her busy schedule to come back and play my birthday party in November, something which I’ll be eternally grateful for.' So, with that in mind, here's a nice little bit of promo for her. Jenny's fantastic album (I know, I've already heard it) is out next week but you can get a sneak peak of it with a different arrangement of BBQ Sauce. Enjoy. |
Making your music folder better, one song at a time.
_Pretty much everyday I seem to find some amazing exclusive tracks that
some awesome artists are giving away for free as a special one off
promotion. Today, it occured to me that instead of just downloading
them, maybe reposting them on facebook if they're special enough/someone I know and
then moving on, I should start a little music blog on here. Even if it
doesn't last forever, it's still a free song for you each day that it
does! I'd say the character of this blog is mostly electropop and singer/songwriter but I've got plans for mathcore, post-rock and glitch-hop. A lot of these tracks have a download limit of 100 so get in there on the quick. I'd also point out that a lot of the songs will need renaming once you've downloaded them so I'd do them one at a time. Archives
